One Flu East, One Flu West

I'm not a very fearful person, not typically paranoid. But this bird flu thing has been pecking at the back of my mind. If we can't deal with an urban hurricane catastrophe that had been predicted for years, then how the hell are we going to manage a nationwide outbreak of a potentially fatal disease?

Welcome back, ML!

ITA. It scares me too. Unless I'm missing something, there are two possibilities. 1) We don't handle it and it turns into another pandemic. 2) It's all overblown hype and will either burn itself out (as Ebola tends to do), or mutate to something a lot less severe in order to allow itself to survive.

While we wait, I recommend a self-contained negative-pressure tent to live in. ;)

this kind of thing is so frightening, but i think it is even more frightening for mothers with young children. not because the threat is greater, but because it's in our nature to wake up in the middle of the night, hearts pounding, and obsess over all the things we can't protect our kids from.
