Saying Goodbye

D and I have decided that it is time to tell Rocket goodbye. Probably tomorrow at our vet's.

Oh, ML, I am so, so sorry. My prayers are with you and your family as you go through this today.

ML... It was a little over a year ago that we suddenly and unexpectedly had to put our Ginger down. Heartbreaking and so hard to say goodbye. But you are doing what you know is best for Rocket. It was a hard decision, but we knew it meant ending Ginger's suffering and not putting her through additional suffering for our own selfish reasons.

It was difficult to explain to Teagan. A year later and she still talks about Ginger from time to time and has even recently gotten sad and teary about her. But we just explained that Ginger's body stopped working. That we loved her very much and always will but her body stopped working and she couldn't come home anymore.

And I've always found comfort from "The Rainbow Bridge."

PTLM, thanks for the kind thoughts. It has been hard.

Liz, thank you so much for sharing your own experience letting your Ginger go. I know how much your dogs mean to you. The kids are doing okay right now. Yesterday was very hard for N, but Ava just seems curious.

Christa, thanks, friend. We are all doing better today, the first day of 2009.
